Why is everyone “all of a sudden” into sourdough bread ? Well sourdough in not a new thing - this way of baking comes from our ancestors and has been around for hundreds of years- when we think of how food was prepared before we had processed food it was simple - with clean ingredients and added even more back to the food to help us to stay healthy.
There are many reasons to LOVE sourdough bread : The taste , the different flavors but the most important in how it helps our health sopecifically our gut health. So lets talk about some of the health benefits of sourdough:
Improved digestion : the bacteria in the sourdough, like lactobacillus, pre - digests the gluten in the grain that helps in reduced bloating.
Better blood sugar management : Sourdough has a lower glycemic index than regular bread, so it causes blood sugar to rise more gradually. This can maintain steady energy.
Improved Gut Health: the prebiotic fiber in the sourdough feeds beneficial bacteria in the gut, which can strengthen the immune system.
Increased mineral absorption: The fermentation process breaks down the physic acid, which can impair the adsorption of certain nutrients and mineral's.
